Monday Motivation: Learn How to Become Resourceful

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but everything is figureoutable. I heard this last month on a training call and all I could remember thinking was “everyone needs to know this!”. So often, we hold ourselves back, we tell ourselves lies that we can’t do something. We play the blame game because we aren’t taking responsibility for our own actions or lack thereof. Ultimately, we give up on our hopes, desires, and dreams because we forget to use the most useful resource we have…..figuring it out!

When I had thoughts of starting this blog, I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I didn’t even know people were still blogging! I just thought it would be a great creative outlet for me so I started to research. I bought a new computer. I purchased a blogger resource guide. I studied different platforms I wanted to use. I studied and I googled. If I would have let all of the things I didn’t know how to do stop me, you wouldn’t be reading this right now. I wouldn’t receive emails and dms about how my words made someone’s day or encouraged someone to get through that breakup. I simply figured it out.

Being resourceful is having the ability to find ways to overcome difficulties. Resourcefulness allows you to remove excuses and reinstates the power back into your own hands. When we lack resourcefulness, we stunt our own growth. Becoming resourceful helps us develop habits. Habits then lead us closer to our goals. I can’t tell you how many people tell me “I could never do that.” or “ How did you learn that?”. My answer always involves “I just figured it out”. You’re either learning and growing or you’re dying. I choose everyday to learn how to create a better blog, how to run a successful online business, how to be a great manager at work. The learning and gathering of information never stops. That’s what in the end, will set us apart.

Here are a few things you can do on a day to day basis to practice resourcefulness:

Check in with my mentors. If you don’t have a mentor, find one. Figure out what it is that you want to do. Whether it’s a fitness goal, a business goal or a life goal, find someone who has what you want. I have mentors who don’t know they’re my mentors, and I have mentors who hold me accountable and check in with me daily. Mentors are the cheat code. When I started my business, I studied those who were already successful. I surrounded myself with people who not only had done it, but who could teach me how to do it. When I started my blog, I joined a mastermind full of women who were on the same journey as me. I joined a coaching program to make sure I was leading myself. Having mentors is just another notch in the belt which allows you to be resourceful.

Ask questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question or a bad question. You should see my google search history LOL. I’ll ask anything unapologetically to find the correct answer. If you don’t ask, how will you ever receive? I’m constantly asking questions, taking notes, writing things down etc. I made a daily reminder in my phone that says “make the ask”. It’s a solid reminder to ask questions. It helps me remain curious. Asking questions helps me stay in the ‘always be a student’ phase.

Become accustomed to trial and error. You will have great ideas but implementing them may not turn out how you expected; at least not right away. Learn how to fall in love with the process verses the end goal. This will help you stay in the resourcefulness lane. You’re going to be bad before you’re good and you’re going to be good before you’re great. Test new ideas out, learn from your mistakes. Ask yourself, “what can I do different next time?”. Analyze and track your progress. Use your old work as a resource and start to mold it into your new projects.

Get rid of the excuses. I despise excuses. In my personal opinion, when we have excuses it’s because we don’t want to take ownership of something. When we’re resourceful, we’re forced to look beyond ourselves. If our time is constantly spent on how we can accomplish something and what we will need in order to do so, then we won’t have time for nonsense excuses that keep us stuck in the same spot. We have to hold ourselves accountable and put in the work. It doesn’t matter if you want to learn how to knit sweaters, there’s a resource out there for you! Use what’s available for you before you make an excuse as to why you can’t do it.

Put in the work. You can’t overnight success. As sad as it is, we live in an instant gratification society. This hinders so much of our own potential because we don’t practice the habits of actually putting in the work. We don’t fall in love with the process. If you want to lose weight, you have to put in the work. If you want clear skin, you have to implement a skincare routine and figure out the best foods to nourish your skin. If you want to learn how to paint, you have to practice and put in the work. If we were all great at something right away then there would be no reward. Get resourceful, figure it out, and take ownership.

Use this as motivation to figure something out this week. Everything is figureoutable.

Happy Monday!
